Lid lock trouble: what to check
- Lid alignment. If the lid sags or the hinge is loose, the latch tab misses the lock. Lift the lid gently while closing it. If it starts, alignment is the problem.
- Debris. Lint and detergent build up around the lock opening. Wipe it with a damp cloth with the washer unplugged.
- Reset. Unplug for one minute. A lock that confused the control can clear itself.
- Lid stuck shut with water inside. Do not force it. Run a drain and spin cycle, or call us. Forcing it breaks the latch.
If the washer still shows a lid error, the lock assembly or its wiring needs replacing.
