Report by Sam Ralin, owner and senior technician

A tenant in South Tampa reported that the Whirlpool WTW4816 top load washer had been loud since move in and was getting worse, to the point where it sounded like something had broken inside.
The technician found the suspension rods worn out. The rods hold the tub and absorb movement during the spin. When they wear, the tub swings and hits the cabinet, and the noise grows each month. The suspension rods were replaced.
Do not wait on a banging washer
Worn suspension is an inexpensive repair. Left alone, the hard knocks can damage the tub, the gearcase or the cabinet, and the washer can walk across the floor and pull on its hoses.
