Report by Sam Ralin, owner and senior technician

An LG WT1001CW top load washer in Sarasota had stopped mid cycle with an OE code. On LG washers, OE means the machine tried to drain and the water level did not drop in time.
During the visit the washer drained normally and the drain pump ran every time it was tested. A pump that works empty and stalls with a full drum of water is a common pattern on these models, so the technician quoted a new drain pump as a preventive repair. The customer decided to wait and call back if the code shows up again, which is a reasonable choice when a fault cannot be reproduced.
Before you call about an OE code
- Check the drain hose behind the washer for a kink or a sharp bend.
- Make sure the hose is not pushed too far into the standpipe. It needs an air gap.
- Run a drain and spin cycle with no clothes and listen for the pump.
If the pump hums but water stays in the drum, something is blocking it or the pump is failing.
