When a combo starts taking hours to dry, the fix is often a thorough cleaning. Clean the lint filter after every drying cycle if your model has one, and keep the door open between loads.
Balancing bulky loads
A single blanket, a rug or a pet bed bunches to one side and throws the drum off balance. Add two or three towels so the weight spreads evenly, and use the bulky cycle, which spins slower. If the washer still bangs with a balanced load, stop using it and have the suspension checked before it damages the tub.
