New dryer or just moved? Check the cord
Electric dryers in this area use either a 3 prong or a 4 prong cord, depending on the outlet. When a dryer is moved, or the cord is swapped to match a new outlet, the wires have to go on the right terminals with the right ground strap setting. A wrong or loose connection overheats the terminal block and can damage the control, as it did on the Wesley Chapel job. Signs to look for:
- A burnt smell near the back of the dryer
- Darkened or melted plastic at the cord connection behind the small cover plate
- A dryer that runs but does not heat, or works only now and then
