Report by Sam Ralin, owner and senior technician

A returning customer in Lithia had a Kenmore 110 series electric dryer that got louder and louder and then stopped turning the drum.
Someone had worked on this dryer before us. The technician found a Samsung drum belt on it, shorter than the belt this Kenmore needs. A belt that is too tight wears fast and puts extra load on the rollers and motor, and this one had snapped. Samsung drum rollers had also been installed. They fit, but they are not made for this dryer, and one had already broken. He put on the correct Kenmore belt, replaced every drum roller with the right part and installed a new idler pulley.
A part that fits is not always the right part
Always replace dryer belts and rollers by model number. If your dryer squeals or thumps soon after a repair, have the parts checked before the belt or motor fails.
