Report by Sam Ralin, owner and senior technician
A washer in the 33619 area filled with water and then stopped. It would not spin. The first fault was easy to find: the door latch assembly was broken, and a washer will not spin if it cannot confirm the door is locked.
But testing turned up a bigger problem. The drive motor had seized and locked itself. A new motor alone was over $300, on top of the latch. With both repairs together, the technician recommended putting the money toward a new washer instead.
Why we tell you this on the first visit
Replacing the latch alone would have made the washer look fixed for a moment, until the seized motor stopped it again. We would rather tell you the whole picture before you pay for any part.
