Report by Sam Ralin, owner and senior technician

A Whirlpool WGD5050LW0 gas dryer in Westchase was tumbling clothes but not heating.
The technician found two problems. The igniter, the part that glows to light the gas, had failed, so the burner never lit. Behind the dryer, the exhaust vent hose was kinked, which restricts airflow and makes any dryer slower and hotter inside. He replaced the igniter and straightened the vent hose, then ran the dryer to confirm it heated and vented properly.
Gas dryer not heating?
- Make sure the gas valve behind the dryer is open.
- Clean the lint screen and check the vent hose for kinks or crushing.
- Watch the burner window. If the igniter glows but no flame lights, the gas valve coils are the next suspect. If it never glows, it is usually the igniter.
Do not try to work on gas parts yourself.
