- January 2026: LG refrigerator with Craft Ice, water running down the back of the freezer
- Instead of making ice, water ran down the back wall inside the freezer. It filled the Craft Ice tray, overflowed to the bottom of the freezer and froze there. On a refrigerator with two ice makers, one in the freezer and one in the door, overflow like this points to the fill system: the water valve, the fill tube or a tray that is not sitting level.
- June 2026: Scotsman ice machine squealing
- The undercounter Scotsman had been installed in 2019 and was descaled every 6 months. It was making ice and was quiet on the day of the visit, but the owner had heard it squealing badly. The owner was interested in a maintenance plan, and the plan we quoted covered three visits and a bearing.
When the ice maker floods the freezer
- Turn the ice maker off, and close the water valve to the refrigerator if water keeps coming.
- Remove the ice and chip away loose ice from the freezer floor. Do not use a knife or a screwdriver near the walls.
- Check that the ice tray and any bins are seated properly and the refrigerator is level from side to side.
- If water returns once the ice maker is back on, the inlet valve or the ice maker needs a technician.
Standalone ice machines
Undercounter ice machines need regular cleaning to keep making clear ice and to protect the pump and bearings. Descaling about every six months, as that Dover owner did, is a good habit. A squeal or a grind usually comes from the pump or a bearing, and it is cheaper to replace that part before it seizes.
