A Speed Queen dryer at a managed rental in Lutz would not start a cycle, and the cycle selector knob was not working properly. The technician found that the timer had failed. On dryers with a mechanical timer, the timer is what sends power to the motor and the heat when you start a cycle.
The Speed Queen timer and the knob assembly were replaced.
Timer or something else?
- If the dryer hums but the drum does not turn, suspect the belt or motor.
- If nothing happens at all, check the breaker, the door switch and the thermal fuse.
- If the knob turns freely or will not stop on a setting, suspect the timer or the knob.
