Report by Sam Ralin, owner and senior technician
A refrigerator in Bradenton was not holding its temperature. During the diagnosis, the technician rebooted the refrigerator's control system. After the reset, it ran exactly as designed, with the right temperatures and normal airflow between sections.
Instead of replacing parts that were working at that moment, he set a 24 to 36 hour monitoring period. If the problem came back, he had already identified the likely cause: the thermistor near the lower fan that circulates air to the lower shelves.
Try a reset first
Modern refrigerators run on electronic controls, and a power blip can confuse them. Unplug the refrigerator, or switch off its breaker, for five minutes and then turn it back on. If it recovers and stays stable for a day or two, you may have saved a service call.
