Report by Sam Ralin, owner and senior technician

A side by side refrigerator in north Tampa made ice some days and none on others.
The technician found the problem in the ice maker itself. The motor that turns the ejector arm was binding and stopping partway through, so cubes stayed in the mold and the next fill never came. On this style of ice maker the motor is part of the assembly, so the whole ice maker assembly was replaced.
Signs your ice maker is the problem, not the water
- Cubes frozen in the mold that never drop into the bin
- The ejector arm stopped halfway around
- Clicking from the ice maker with no movement
If the mold is empty and dry, check the water filter and the supply line first.
