Report by Sam Ralin, owner and senior technician

A Maytag MED5700 electric dryer in St. Petersburg ran but did not dry. The technician found the heating element not working and the temperature sensors defective.
He also found the dryer vent duct in poor condition. That matters: a bad vent overheats a dryer and is a common reason heating elements and sensors fail. The quote covered the element and sensors, plus replacing the vent duct and a thorough cleaning of the vent system, so the new parts would not fail the same way.
Fix the cause, not just the part
When a dryer element burns out, ask what made it overheat. A crushed foil duct, a long run with many bends, or a vent full of lint can all do it. Replacing the element without fixing the vent often means another repair a few months later.
