- Found
- The ice machine pump was leaking, and water was reaching the electronic components inside
- Outcome
- Replaced the ice machine pump
Report by Sam Ralin, owner and senior technician

A commercial Manitowoc ice machine at a community center was leaking water underneath. Commercial ice machines run all day, and a leak inside them is more than a puddle: water can reach the control board and wiring.
The technician traced the leak to the ice machine pump, which was leaking internally onto the electronic components. The pump was replaced before the water could cause a bigger failure.
For businesses with ice machines
- Check under and behind the machine weekly for water.
- Keep the drain line clear and sloped.
- Schedule cleaning and descaling at least twice a year.
Commercial service calls are $125, credited toward the repair.
