The freezer drawer handle on a GE French door refrigerator in Bartow kept coming loose and had come off again. The technician found the problem was not the screws: the mounting studs and the handle itself were cracked.

Both mounting studs and the handle assembly were replaced, so the handle was solid again.

Why freezer handles break

Bottom freezer drawers are heavy when full, and the handle takes all of that weight every time you pull. A stuck drawer, from ice or a worn slide, makes people pull harder. If the drawer is hard to open, have the slides and gasket checked before the handle cracks.
