Report by Sam Ralin, owner and senior technician

A freezer in Lithia had stopped cooling and was leaking. Inside, water had frozen solid in the freezer compartment, and ice was hitting the fan so it could not spin.
The source was the ice maker. Its fill funnel had fallen off, so every time the ice maker filled, the water ran down the back wall instead of into the ice tray. It froze over the fan blade, the motor and the electrical contacts. The ice maker's on/off switch was also missing.
The technician defrosted everything, including the fan, and ordered the missing parts.
Small part, big problem
If you see ice forming on the back wall of the freezer or around the ice maker, turn the ice maker off and call before the fan freezes.
