New Tampa grew up in the 1990s and 2000s as a corridor of planned and gated communities. Many kitchens there have convection wall ovens, double ovens and connected ranges with touch controls. When those fail, the fault is often electronic, so the diagnosis has to cover the control board, sensors and relays, not only the heating parts.
What we usually find
| Symptom | Common cause |
|---|---|
| Display or touch buttons dead | A failed control board or a tripped internal thermal fuse |
| Gas oven will not light | A weak or cracked bake igniter that no longer opens the gas valve |
| Heats slowly or not at all | A burned out bake element, a weak igniter, or a failed relay on the board |
| Burns food or bakes unevenly | A drifting temperature sensor, a warped element, or a worn door gasket |
| Convection fan noisy or stopped | A worn convection fan motor |
If you smell gas near a range or oven, do not touch any switches. Leave the house and call from outside.
Before the holidays
Put an oven thermometer on the middle rack and run the oven at 350 degrees for 20 minutes. If it reads more than about 25 degrees off, the sensor or calibration needs attention, and it is much easier to fix in October than on the day of the big meal.

Convection, air fry and smart ovens
Many New Tampa kitchens now have ovens with convection, air fry modes or Wi-Fi control. Those features add parts, and each one fails in its own way:
| Feature | What wears out | Sign |
|---|---|---|
| Convection | The fan motor or the convection element behind the back panel | Noise from the back, or convection mode heating slowly |
| Air fry | The same fan and element, run harder and longer | Uneven browning, longer cook times |
| Wi-Fi | The connectivity module, or simply a router change | The app shows the oven offline |
| Touch controls | The touch panel or the board behind it | Buttons that need hard presses or do nothing |
A smart oven that loses Wi-Fi after a router change usually just needs to be reconnected through its settings menu. That is worth trying before booking a repair.
