Report by Sam Ralin, owner and senior technician

A tenant in a Valrico rental heard a pop from the range, saw a small spark and smelled burning, and the property manager called us.
Behind the range, the technician found the cause. The power cord was not seated properly on the terminal block. A loose connection heats up every time the range draws power, and this one had arced until the terminal block and the wiring around it were burnt. He replaced the power cord, the terminal block and the wire harness, with new connectors.
If your range pops or smells like burning plastic
- Turn it off and switch off its breaker.
- Do not keep using it to see if it happens again.
- Have the cord connection checked, especially if the range was recently moved or installed.
