Use the hot surface light
Every glass top has a small indicator light that stays on while any burner is still hot, even after it is switched off. It is the best protection against burns on a surface that looks cool. Make it a habit to check that light before wiping the glass or setting anything on it. If the light never comes on, or never goes off, have it checked. It is a safety part, not a decoration.
